The long periods of sunshine which may be even 300 days of the year, the limited rainfalls and moisture as well as the saltiness of the sea compose an exceptionally gifted climate which in combination with the best variety of olive oil tree produced that is Koroneiki, give the extra virgin olive oil special properties there, this type of olive oil is considered to be one of the best in the Mediterranean.

These special features encouraged the European Union Via the regulation of 2092/91 to recognize its great value and to characterize it as an olive oil of protected origin, so as to distinguish it from the others.
